The Performance Creator

Creators as a Performance Engine

Issue #14 · July 2026 · SA Edition

This week 📺 The funnel just collapsed

The line between awareness and conversion is disappearing.

Last issue: search predicts who sells. This issue: where that search gets created, and where it leaks out before it reaches your till. For years the split was clean. Awareness on one side, judged on reach. Conversion on the other, judged on last click. YouTube is dissolving that divide, because the same creator video now does both jobs at once. Which is good news and bad news: the work is landing, but the plumbing between the two halves is where the money is going missing.

Lead Story · From Craig

YouTube stopped being the place a TV ad goes to be archived.

For years brands briefed TikTok and Instagram and treated YouTube as an archive. That's changing fast — and the reason isn't the format, it's the mindset of the person watching. TikTok and Instagram are lean-back entertainment. YouTube is where people go to decide, arriving with "best", "how to", "is it worth it".

That changes what a creator video is: not a billboard that decays in 48 hours, but an asset that compounds. Roughly 40% of views and 30% of clicks land more than 30 days after publish — part of why Google puts YouTube at 2.3× the long-term ROAS of paid social.

⚡ Shorts discover

Trend-reactive hooks and fast demos pull in people your TikTok buy never touches.

💬 Long-form persuades

Tutorials and honest teardowns answer the objection standing between viewer and purchase.

✦ The key insight

YouTube breaks the last-click dashboard, so run three clocks at once — fast (branded search within days), medium (paid efficiency over the first few weeks) and slow (assisted conversions and lifetime value across 30–90 days). For every £1 you attribute to a creator's click, roughly £4 turns up elsewhere.

The Tribeez Read

When one video generates demand, captures search and drives sales over months, the creator stops being an awareness line item and becomes a performance asset. The only question is whether you run YouTube like a TV upload, or like the intent engine it has quietly become.

The Case Study · Think with Google

e.l.f. stopped guessing which creative to scale, and let the organic pick it

Launching the Soft Glam Satin Concealer, e.l.f. threw out the playbook that treats getting noticed and making a sale as two separate steps. With Viral Nation, it ran fast Shorts alongside long-form reviews, watched which integrations earned genuine engagement, then fed those proven assets into paid via Demand Gen, using the creators' own organic video audiences as the targeting blueprint, and running co-branded so the creator stayed on the ad.

e.l.f. understood that building an audience has as much value as short-term sales.
Nicholas Spiro, Chief Commercial Officer, Viral Nation

The results: 23% more conversions, a 46% higher click-through rate on Creator Seed Audiences, and 10% more view-through conversions. The demand wasn't manufactured. The signal already sitting in the organic was found and amplified. Beauty creator Manny MUA's Shorts led on application, wearability and the $5 price: "Viewers were commenting about how amazing it looked. No one even said anything about the fact that it was sponsored."

Google data, 1–20 March 2026. Actual results vary by advertiser.

3 more reads shaping creator performance right now

📊 Influencer Marketing Hub Warm click, cold page
The hook

Same creators, same traffic, same commission. One change to where the click lands produced a 214% lift in conversion rate for Cozy Earth, and 67% higher AOV alongside it. Buttah Skin: 30% higher conversion, 78% higher AOV. Electro now takes 81% of its ecommerce revenue through creator storefronts.

Why it matters

"The creator did their job. The landing page didn't." Your creator spent two years earning that trust, then handed the buyer to a homepage that has no idea who sent them. Figures are Creator Commerce's data, via IMH.

🥗 Net Influencer A jingle became a TV ad
The hook

Farmer Boys built its summer connected-TV commercial out of one creator's TikTok jingle about a salad. No film crew, no studio shoot. Chopped Cobb Salad sales rose 20% against the pre-campaign baseline, and CTV usage rights were in the creator's contract before he ever filmed.

Why it matters

Creator content briefed as a paid-media asset from the start, not rescued after the fact. "You don't have to use creators to replace your advertising. You can use creators to enhance it." Sort usage rights up front and one creator fee buys you three channels.

📰 Digiday 300,000 creators
The hook

A year after declaring creators core to its marketing, Unilever has grown its network from 10,000 to 300,000, and is deciding which parts of the job to hand to machines. Discovery, vetting and brand safety go to AI. The relationship stays human. The average brief has gone from 5–8 creators to 25–30.

Why it matters

The question has moved from "should creators be core?" to "what's the operating system?" Adding creators is easy; the infrastructure breaks. Read it as a warning too: automate the brief too hard and you get safe content that converts like a banner ad.

⚡ Apply It

3 ways to close the gap this week

None of this means spending more. It means fixing the plumbing between the reach you're already buying and the sale you're already chasing.

01

Say the product name out loud

Go back through your last five creator briefs. If the product name isn't spoken on camera and in the title, YouTube can't index it and your buyers can't find it. Fix the next brief before it ships.

02

Check where your creator links land

If creator traffic converts below 2% while your own product pages do 3–4%, the gap is the landing experience, not the creator. Take five creators, give each a page carrying their name and their picks, hold everything else constant for 30 days.

03

Boost the winners, don't guess them

Let creators post natively first. Watch which integrations earn real engagement, then put the paid behind those, co-branded, from the creator's handle. That's the whole e.l.f. play, and it beat brand-built creative.

We make your creator content searchable

If awareness and conversion now happen in the same video, that video has to be findable at the moment of decision. Tribeez engineers creator content to create the search, and to be the answer people land on. That's Answerz: intent creator marketing.
