The Friday Angle: Instagram goes long with 90-minute videos, and 4 more platform moves

Five platform moves from the week of 24 to 30 October 2026, and the brand angle on each. Two minutes, and you are up to date.

Every Friday we pick the platform news that matters and add the part most round-ups leave out: what it means for your brand. Here is this week's five.

1. Instagram makes room for 90-minute creator videos

Instagram is testing Features (26 Oct), horizontal videos of up to 90 minutes for podcasts, vlogs and interviews, which can also be watched on TV. Clips as Reels lets creators link up to eight Reels back to the full video, and Series lets them group Reels by topic. The test starts with select creators and expands over the coming months.

The brand angle: One shoot, many cuts. Brief creators for a longer piece and plan the short clips that send viewers back to it, so the Reels earn the look and the long version earns the trust.

2. Meta says smarter ad ranking is lifting results

Meta says (28 Oct) that upgrades to its ad ranking systems drove 8.3% more ad clicks and 15.7% more conversions on Facebook in Q2, with improvements to its Andromeda ad retrieval system adding a further 1.4% in conversions in Q3. It also says partnership ads, where brands run ads through creators' accounts, grew more than 97% year on year in Q3.

The brand angle: The system is getting better at finding the buyer, so the creative has to give it something worth showing. Feed it real creator content as partnership ads, and keep a steady supply of fresh versions.

3. TikTok puts trust at the centre of brand safety

At its APAC Responsible Media Forum (28 Oct), TikTok launched a Brand Safety Center, a Brand Protection Playbook and an AI Safety Essentials guide to responsible AI in advertising. In Ipsos research across 12 markets, people who saw sponsored brand content on TikTok rated those brands 30% more authentic and 11% more trustworthy than people who hadn't. TikTok says it has labelled over 3 billion videos as AI-generated.

The brand angle: We only buy from brands we trust. Disclose the partnership, label any AI, and let real people do the talking, because trust is what turns a view into a sale.

4. YouTube turns Shorts into seasons and episodes

YouTube (27 Oct) now lets creators organise Shorts into series with seasons and episodes, custom thumbnails and sequential playback. YouTube says microdramas passed 6.5 billion views in the first half of 2026, with watch time up more than 50% year on year.

The brand angle: Episodes bring people back. Turn a campaign into a short series with a recurring host and format, so viewers follow the story and the brand becomes part of it.

5. Reddit adds a For You feed built on recommendations

Reddit's homepage (28 Oct) now has two feeds. For You mixes posts from communities a user has joined with recommendations based on their interests, and Following shows only joined communities. Users can switch between them, Reddit remembers the last one viewed, and the update is rolling out globally over the next few weeks.

The brand angle: Recommendations reward content people want to join in on. Brief creators to start a real conversation, not just make a post, and be ready to answer the questions that follow.
